Hi, I'm Carmel...

For the past 5 years I have trained and worked as a relationship counsellor and in 2020 set up Laois Couples Counselling. 

 

I always had a keen interest in Psychology,, and in 2016 I I started a Higher Diploma in Marriage & Relationship Counselling in St. Patrick's College Maynooth. I began my career studying business studies in college and worked in business analytics for many years, but I knew I wanted something more and relished the opportunity to develop this aspect of myself. 

 

I have a deep passion for helping people, and in particular couples, to navigate relationships. In 2021 I completed a year's training in The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy with Dr, Ellyn Bader and Dr. Peter Pearson. I am currently enrolled the  London Diploma in Psychosexual & Relationship Therapy.

I believe in the power of communication and connection and am certain that by using the right communication tools many of the challenges and difficult situations relationships face can improve. If you can build the connection in your relationship it can withstand any turbulence that comes up.

 

My mission is to 

 

Help you reconnect by providing a safe space for conflict resolution, developing good communication skills within the relationship, and allowing you both time to heal and rediscover the fun in your relationship. 

 

Work with you to define new relationship goals, supporting you throughout your journey to achieve these goals. If you know what you want, then it is easier to tell your partner what that is. 

 

Help you define what you want from a relationship, and to assess your own role in impacting the dynamic of your relationship. Nothing happens in a vacuum, conflict in a relationship is not the fault of only one person.
